 | | Mentoring Program
Historically, lawyers were trained in the practice of law by their mentors. As times changed and law firms became larger, however, the profession's mentoring tradition seemed to disappear, and effective mentoring came about only through happenstance. Winstead recognizes the value of effective mentoring to new associates and to the firm. Because Winstead is committed to the long-term personal and professional growth of its associates, we have established a formal and comprehensive mentoring program.
Every associate just out of law school and many experienced lateral hires select a mentor from among a group of experienced Winstead shareholders. This group of mentors is carefully chosen by the program directors, and professional training is provided to each mentor. Trained mentors help guide associates through the early stages of practice at the firm, meeting on a regular basis over a two or three year period to listen and provide objective insights and candid advice. Mutual trust and confidence are the hallmarks of Winstead's Mentoring Program.
While mentoring occurs informally as a part of the day-to-day practice and through the daily interaction among attorneys, Winstead's Mentoring Program provides greater integration into the firm and culture, as well as the community. The mentoring also facilitates a more personal connection between the firm and its individual attorneys, which commonly fosters greater career satisfaction and increased long-term stability and profitability. |
