| ProfileJay Madrid served Winstead with distinction during the first 16 years of his tenure, spending several years as head of the Litigation Section and a member of the firm's Management and Compensation Committees. He left for a brief time between 1994 and 1998 but returned to provide a senior litigation presence to the firm. - Successfully defended claims brought by real estate promoter against investors in multi-week jury trial
- Successfully defended national bank against wrongful foreclosure claims and prevailed on counterclaims for deficiency amounts
- Served as lead counsel for savings and loan association in obtaining $53 million jury verdict after five-week trial in case involving illegal transfers of real and personal property
- Lead defense counsel in multimillion-dollar lawsuit alleging product defect (jury found no defect, thus avoiding a potential worldwide product recall)
- Successfully defended largest owner/operator of apartment complexes in U.S. (at the time) in federal court, San Francisco, against multimillion dollar claims of fraud, civil theft liability and breach of fiduciary duties
- Prosecuted challenge to Dallas Appraisal District reassessment of historic private residence, with jury reducing assessment from approximately $10 million to $2.9 million
- Successfully defended several related corporate entities in California Superior Court in case involving alleged breaches of ground lease provisions, tortious interference, conversion and fiduciary duty breaches
- Handled complex litigation matters, including several notable jury trials, defending or prosecuting client's claims, several of which cases have involved securities fraud and related litigation
