Winstead PC has partnered with Houston Astros player Alex Bregman and Lakewood Church founders Joel and Victoria Osteen to help raise funds for the Houston Food Bank amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shareholder Denis Braham was retained by Bregman to assist in reorganizing his children’s charity, Alex’s Army. The nonprofit was originally set up to assist kids with disabilities, and Bregman wanted to expand its reach in light of the COVID-19 crisis to help kids in Houston who do not have food to eat. The new campaign, called FEEDHOU, reached its initial fundraising goal of $1 million and is now on track to reach their new $2 million goal.
To help Alex’s Army reach their goal, Braham introduced Bregman to Joel and Victoria Osteen, founders of America’s largest church, Lakewood Church, based in Houston, Texas. The Osteens pledged to donate $100,000 to the cause. They’ve also encouraged their congregation to donate during their services, which are currently being broadcast online to more than six million viewers across the United States.
“This is a great example of what can happen when we bring clients together to help the community,” Braham said. “We are honored to support Alex’s Army and the FEEDHOU campaign.”
In addition to the Osteens, other well-known Houstonians like rapper Paul Wall and Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale have also supported Alex’s Army and the mission to donate to the Houston Food Bank. Every dollar donated can provide three meals to people in need. The team of Winstead attorneys assisting with the charity reorganization was led by Braham, co-chair of the Sports Business & Public Venues Industry Group, and also included Winstead Shareholders Jeff Chadwick and Jordan Ware. Robert Shaddox assisted in the trademark filing for the charity’s name.
Houston’s KPRC Channel 2 has covered the partnership between Bregman and the Osteens, and the Houston Chronicle has covered the FEEDHOU campaign.
