Dakota represents owners and developers in drafting and negotiating design and construction agreements for complex commercial projects, including professional services agreements, architect agreements, design-build agreements, construction agreements, project management agreements, and other related agreements. Dakota’s experience includes sports venues, hospitality, entertainment, mixed-use, multifamily, warehouse and manufacturing facilities, land development projects, and special purpose districts. 

In addition to Dakota’s transactional work, he represents clients in construction-related disputes at all stages of a project, including contract defaults and terminations, construction defects, design errors and omissions, delays and scheduling disputes, change order issues, lien matters, and payment disputes. 

Known for a practical, business-oriented approach, Dakota helps clients mitigate risk, control costs, and maintain project momentum in both contract formation and dispute resolution. Dakota has been recognized as “One to Watch” by the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (2021) and a Rising Star by Texas Super Lawyers (2025, 2026).

Representative Experience

Sports, Hospitality & Entertainment

  • Assisted with drafting and negotiating design agreements for the revitalization of a baseball stadium and the construction of a $250 million mixed-use development combining office, retail, restaurant, hotel, condominium, and parking.
  • Served on the legal team representing franchise owner in the construction of a new 20,000-seat stadium and surrounding mixed-use development.
  • Assisted with preparing and negotiating design and construction contracts for the revitalization of several minor league baseball stadiums.
  • Member of the legal team preparing and negotiating design and construction contracts for a new professional-sports training facility, which involved complex insurance and ownership issues.
  • Assisted owner in achieving an early resolution to approximately $2,5 million in delay and defect claims arising from the development of an arena, adjacent parking garage, and retail space.

Multifamily 

  • Represents owner in drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts for Class A multifamily projects totaling approximately $150 million in transactions annually.
  • Represented private equity firm in connection with design and construction contracts for student housing projects totaling more than 1,100 beds.
  • Represented condominium developer in arbitration proceedings against a general contractor arising from construction defects within units and common areas. The cumulative amount in controversy totaled nearly $5 million.
  • Defended a condominium association in arbitration regarding alleged design and construction defects within units and common areas. The cumulative amount in controversy exceeded $4 million.

Warehouse & Manufacturing Facilities

  • Represents owner in drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts for industrial facilities totaling approximately 11 million square feet of space.
  • Represents large industrial developer in drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts for industrial facilities supporting e-commerce enterprises, including advising on authority-having-jurisdiction issues, site-access arrangements, construction delays, and defect claims.
  • Represents data center developer in drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts for the expansion of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities across Texas.

Land Development & Special Purpose Districts

  • Represents municipal utility district in drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts for a 1,400-acre mixed-use development.
  • Represents management district in drafting construction contracts for waterworks, sanitary sewer, and drainage facilities.
  • Represented a management district in a pre-litigation dispute involving construction defects and delays, with claims totaling approximately $1.5 million.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance." 

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".
