With nearly three decades of experience in handling complex real estate finance, acquisition, disposition, and other real estate transactions and nearly $2 trillion in loans closed within the past 15 years, Dax Scharfstein has earned a reputation as one of the hardest working and most personable lawyers in the field. He represents commercial lenders, private equity funds, and family offices in the origination of mortgage, mezzanine, and bridge loans, as well as the purchasing and sale of properties throughout the United States.

Dax's practice spans conduit and large securitization loans for CMBS execution, as well as construction and bridge loans for transitional properties intended for sale into the secondary market. Dax also advises on mezzanine financings and joint ventures for institutional lenders across the country.

Dax has played a central role in some of the largest CMBS financings and restructurings in the market and regularly negotiates workouts and loan sales on behalf of commercial lenders. His clients, national in scope and active across all 50 states and internationally, span every major asset class, including multifamily, hospitality, industrial, retail, and office. In addition to his finance practice, he represents developers and high-net-worth individuals in the acquisition and disposition of real estate portfolios nationally.

Earlier in his career, Dax was part of the CMBS group at Bear Stearns, where he structured and closed more than $20 billion in real estate transactions for securitization and CDO exits. Dax also served as General Counsel for the Carlton Group, leading all aspects of its origination and restructuring platforms for balance sheet debt and real estate equity investments.

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
