Since 1973, John Nolan has provided clients innovative legal and business solutions that efficiently and effectively deliver the desired results. John's broad-based real estate practice encompasses development, workouts, portfolio/equity investments and financing for clients located across the United States and for international companies investing in the United States. He is known for his thorough analysis and knowledge of complex business transactions. The combination of these skills with John's financial background enables him to quickly evaluate his clients' business objectives and create a team, or compile the necessary resources, to formulate and execute his clients' plans.

John is active in both the community and the real estate industry and shares his experience with others as a frequent writer and lecturer at business and legal seminars and presentations. His broad experience in all business cycles consistently delivers results that earn him a reputation as an innovative dealmaker.

John also serves as a member of Winstead's Executive Committee and is the former head of the firm's Real Estate Section.

Representative Experience

  • Representation of developers in all types of developments, including apartments, retail, office, mixed-use developments and high density urban projects in all stages of development; the sale or syndication of improved projects (including off-balance-sheet vehicles); the negotiation and administration of land use, transportation, utility and regulatory matters; and the structuring and formation of all types of real estate entities including public/private arrangements
  • Representation of both developers and investors in conjunction with equity infusions, structuring equity vehicles and negotiation of documentation for equity vehicles
  • Representation of both lenders and borrowers in workouts of distressed projects and entities in crisis situations
  • Representation of both lenders and borrowers in conjunction with construction financing, mezzanine financing and permanent financing
