Texas Lawyer's "Litigator of the Week," Steve Wedemeyer and Bruce Wilkin

05.01.15

Winstead Shareholders Steve Wedemeyer and Bruce Wilkin won a complete victory in a Harris County jury trial.  This was a first-party bad faith insurance case filed against Winstead client Landmark American Insurance Company (RSUI).  It was a great result for the client.  Insurance companies often perceive they can’t win high dollar jury trials.  The plaintiff had a damages model of approximately $5 million with plans to treble it and seek punitive damages.

Without calling a single witness for the defense, Steve and Bruce cross-examined the litany of witnesses called by the plaintiff.  After a two and a half week trial, the jury returned a resounding “No” on every liability question, resulting in $0 to the plaintiff.

The case was selected by Texas Lawyer to be featured in the Litigator of the Week section: Click here to read the full coverage.

Congratulations to the Winstead litigation team and extra thanks to Andrew Edelman, Veronica Harrelson (legal secretary), and Vanesa Keller (paralegal) in their tireless efforts to bring home the victory!

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
