Urban Land Institute Features Bob Burton for Member Spotlight

12.17.20

Winstead PC Shareholder Bob Burton was selected for the Urban Land Institute (“ULI”) Sponsor Member Spotlight in December 2020. He was interviewed by Alecia Burdick, Associate Director at Savills who is on the ULI Austin Sponsorship Committee, about his real estate law practice and experience with ULI, which is excerpted below.

Burton has been a member of ULI since 2004. He participated in the Residential Neighborhood Development Council for many years, and says this experience has helped him expand his ability to represent his clients by gaining insights from a broad range of practitioners.

“To be successful in this industry, you have to know a lot of people,” Burton said. “You can’t individually develop a real estate project by yourself. Expanding and extending your network is critically important.”

He noted that the best part of being a national member of ULI is that it provides the opportunity to learn best practices in other markets, which is beneficial for his clients.

“I don’t know of another organization that brings such a broad range of practitioners together,” Burton said. “You learn from inside your industry and then outside your industry. My ability to advise my clients would be severely limited if that was restricted to only my local experience.”

Burton is the co-leader of the firm’s Real Estate Development & Investments Practice Group and co-leader of the firm’s Planned Community, Mixed-Use and Condominium Practice Group. His practice focuses on real estate, with an emphasis on the planning, development, risk management, administration and marketing of single-family, townhome, condominium, commercial, and mixed-use projects, as well as timeshares and resorts. Burton also works with developers and builders to ensure compliance with secondary mortgage market (FHA, VA, FNMA, etc.) and Interstate Land Sales registration requirements. He also represents condominium, residential, commercial, and mixed-use property owner associations.

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
