Jay Akers is a member of Winstead's Real Estate Finance, Default Resolution & Servicing Practice Group. Jay represents financial institutions in connection with commercial lending transactions, with an emphasis on both balance sheet loans and loans originated for the CMBS market. Jay also regularly serves as local counsel for financings with real property collateral located in North Carolina.

Securitized Lending: Represents national CMBS and other fixed-income lenders on financing transactions ranging from $3,000,000 to $30,000,000, involving loans secured by multi-family apartment complex developments, mixed-used real estate, office complexes, hotels, and industrial buildings.

  • $13.9 million financing of a multi-family property in Nashville, Tennessee. 
  • $25.3 million financing of a multi-family property in Savannah, Georgia.
  • $11.0 million financing of a multi-use property in San Diego, California.
  • $14.5 million financing of a hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Balance Sheet Financing: Represented institutional lenders as co-counsel in the origination and negotiation of portfolio loans secured by commercial real estate.

  • $100.0 million financing of self-storage portfolio secured by 23 properties in 8 states.
  • $475.0 million financing of hotel portfolio secured by 18 properties in 11 states.
  • $200.0 million financing of industrial portfolio secured by 25 properties in 9 states.
  • $150.0 million financing of self-storage portfolio secured by 41 properties in 16 states.

Local Counsel: Regularly serves as North Carolina counsel for institutional lenders and borrowers in the origination and negotiation of loans secured by commercial real estate in North Carolina.

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance." 

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
