Environmental & Natural Resources

Winstead advises companies, property owners, and other organizations in navigating—and shaping—the rapidly evolving landscape of environmental law and regulation. Our attorneys provide strategic, business-focused counsel that helps clients secure permits, maintain compliance, resolve disputes, and engage effectively in policymaking that impacts their operations.

We view environmental challenges as opportunities to plan strategically, engage early, and position our clients to influence outcomes rather than simply react to them. Drawing on experience inside government, regulatory agencies, and corporate legal departments, our team understands both how policy is made and how it affects real-world business decisions. We work closely with decision-makers and regulators to help clients stay ahead of change and adapt their strategies with confidence.

Our practice covers the full range of environmental matters: permitting, audits, compliance planning, lending and transactional due diligence, and advocacy. We track emerging policy areas including climate, sustainability, environmental justice, and the water-energy nexus, alongside core regulatory programs governing air and water quality, waste management, species protection, and resource use. Our practice integrates environmental considerations into broader operational, transactional, and financial objectives to achieve both compliance and strategic progress.

When issues arise, we advocate effectively and efficiently. Our attorneys represent clients in enforcement proceedings, administrative hearings, appeals, and settlement negotiations that achieve practical, durable results. We also advise on the environmental aspects of business and real estate transactions, including risk evaluation, indemnity structuring, and environmental components of project finance.

Winstead’s attorneys are actively engaged in shaping environmental laws, policies, and regulations. We review and comment on proposed rules, participate in rulemaking, and work closely with state and local officials to ensure regulations are practical, cost-effective, and grounded in sound policy. We have strong, collaborative relationships with environmental regulations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC), and numerous other state and local authorities.

Across industries—from real estate development, energy, financial services, and healthcare—Winstead’s attorneys are adept guides through the byzantine network of environmental policies and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels. We guide clients through complex environmental matters, manage regulatory risks, and advocate for policies that promote their business objectives.

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
