McCall Grimes has built his career at the intersection of real estate, capital and business strategy. He advises developers, sponsors, institutional investors and other market participants on sophisticated transactions across the real estate investment life cycle, including joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions, development projects, debt and equity financings, recapitalizations, fund formations and investment platforms.

Drawing on experience as both a general counsel and a private-practice transactional lawyer, McCall brings a distinctly commercial perspective to his work. He understands how investment decisions are evaluated inside an organization and how legal issues can affect timing, returns, business relationships and execution. Clients benefit from counsel that is grounded in the realities of operating a business, deploying capital and moving complex transactions from opportunity through closing.

Before joining Winstead, McCall served as General Counsel of The Dinerstein Companies, a multigenerational Houston-based real estate developer and investor with a longstanding focus on multifamily and student housing across the United States. As General Counsel, McCall was a member of the company’s executive leadership team and Investment Committee and advised company leadership on transactions and investments nationwide.

Working alongside investment, development, construction, finance and asset management professionals gave him firsthand insight into the full life cycle of a real estate project and the priorities that drive sponsors and investors.

McCall began his legal career representing public companies, private equity sponsors and financial institutions in public and private capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions and strategic investments. His work included initial public offerings, follow-on offerings and other equity and debt financings, as well as acquisitions and dispositions involving sponsors and portfolio companies.
