Omar Marawi brings a rare combination of engineering and litigation experience to patent disputes. Prior to practicing law, he worked as a physical design, validation, and software engineer at a major semiconductor company. This experience now informs how he breaks down complex technologies into presentable formats for the courts. He has represented clients across a range of industries, including in matters related to cellular communication standards, data processing, Bluetooth, smartphones, medical implants, poultry processing, and oil and gas.

Omar has litigated patent cases in federal courts across Texas and California, including presenting claim constructions, challenging flawed damages theories, and briefing Daubert motions targeting unreliable expert testimony.

Outside of his patent practice, Omar is active in pro bono work. He has represented both landlords and tenants in housing disputes, and helped homeowners navigate contractor fraud and property recovery following Hurricane Harvey in Houston.

  • Defended camera design company from alleged patent infringement and demonstrated several of the asserted patents were invalid.
  • Represented an oil and gas exploration company in a trade secrets lawsuit relating to economic modeling, drilling and completion techniques
  • Represented a client in a patent assertion matter involving cellular communication standards, including 3G, 4G, and LTE technologies.
  • Represented a client in a patent assertion matter involving Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and non-traditional smart devices used in data centers.
  • Defended poultry processing company in patent infringement litigation involving the specific chemical compounds and methods used in treatment plant.
  • Defended a client in a patent case involving six patents, addressing claims of patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation related to medical implants and implantation techniques.
  • Litigated on behalf of an offshore oil and gas company in trade secret claims against a former employee and competitor who allegedly used design files to develop a competing rig.

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

Operators

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
