StreamScale Wins $240 Million Jury Verdict

Winstead PC, a leading Texas-based law firm with national practices serving clients across the country, announced that the firm’s client, StreamScale, won a $240 million jury verdict in a major patent case against Cloudera, a California based data-management company.

The jury determined that Cloudera had infringed on three StreamScale patents related to its cloud-based data storage technology.

“We are very pleased with the verdict and thank each juror for their time and commitment to the legal system. Entrepreneurs should also take heart knowing that regardless of the size or scale of their company, patents will be enforced and protected by the courts. The system works,” said Jamie McDole, a Winstead shareholder who represented StreamScale.

StreamScale owns patents for “accelerated erasure coding” technology, which they call the “cornerstone” of modern data storage.

The Winstead team, comprising Jamie McDole, Mike Karson, Phillip Philbin, Dave Higer, Matt Vitale, Nikki Becraft, Amanda Johnson, and Pam Jones, joined forces with Irell & Manella and the Ciccarelli Law Firm to secure the victory for StreamScale.
